CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The second round of the 2022 Region 3 Baseball tourney was held at Carrington City Park on Monday with four games, here are the results:

Lamoure/Litchville/Marion 7  South Border 5

The number one seed in the tournament and defending Region 3 champs had to come from behind to defeat the five seeded, Mustangs of South Border in the first game of the day. The Loboes tied the score at four in the bottom of the third inning and took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Tate Mart, Anthony Hanson and Dylan Carlson had two hits each for LLM, Carlson knocked in two and hit a single and double. Daniel Schumacher was 2-for-3 at the plate with a single, double, RBI and score two runs. LLM improves to 11-1, SB drops to 3-8.

Carrington 5  Sheyenne/New Rockford 4

The Black Sox scored two runs in the top of the seventh to come within one run but the number two seeded Cardinals hang on to avoid the upset and will now move into the semifinal with the Loboes of LLM on Tuesday. Carrington was down 2-1 after three innings, but scored two in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good. Senior Lucas Hendrickson was 3-for-4 at the plate with three singles and two RBI. Hayden Meier had two doubles and knocked in three for SNR. Carrington is now 7-4, SNR drops to 3-13.

 

Kidder County  2   South Border  0

An unearned run in the first inning was enough for the Kidder County-NGS Wolves to live another day in the Region 3 tournament. Blake Braun pitched a 4 hit shutout and had the only RBI of the game driving in Isaiah Oster in the first inning with a 2 out single. Oster reached on an error earlier in the inning. Braun recorded 7 strikeouts, zero walks allowed, and hit 1 batter to collect the win. Simon Hager scored the second run for the Wolves. After a leadoff single in the second inning, Hager stole second base and would attempt a steal of third base. Donaven Martin hit a groundball to the shortstop who who threw out Martin at first base but Hager kept on going around third and made a great slide past the South Border catcher for the final run of the game. Jace Nitschke was the tough luck losing pitcher, allowing 2 runs (1 earned), 3 hits allowed, 5 strikeouts, and did not allow any walks or hit batters. South Border finished the season 4-9 overall and Kidder County improved to 12-6 and will play the winner of Sheyenne-New Rockord and Midkota-DP-L-GCC at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday.

 

Midkota-DP-L-GCC  2   Sheyenne-New Rockford 0 (suspended in the 4th inning)

The Mustangs leading 2-0 in the 4th inning over the Black Sox will resume tomorrow at 11:00 A.M. The game was called due to lightning in the top of the 4th inning.
