OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Post 36 Legion baseball team dominated the Edgeley Post 146 Legion baseball team by a final score of 11-5.

Despite the high amount of runs, it was the pitching that was the headline of the day for Post 36. Starting pitcher Fletcher Willprecht was dominant, to say the least with 13 strikeouts in six innings pitched in the win. He had an immaculate inning (nine pitches for nine strikes leading to three strikeouts) in the top of the second inning, which was one of the two innings where he struck out three batters. Willprecht also allowed just three earned runs, three walks and six hits and picked up the victory.

Oakes got their first three runs in the first two innings, but all of them were on Edgeley’s defensive errors. The offense didn’t start clicking until the fourth and fifth innings when they got two RBI singles apiece from third baseman Howie Neustel and Willprecht. They were able to get a lot of runners on base via walk and hit by pitch. Oakes was also able to take advantage of some costly Edgeley mistakes to put the game away. In the top of the seventh, they made some mistakes which allowed a few runs to make the game seem closer than it was.

Oakes will play again at home on Monday, June 27th against Lidgerwood-Hankinson as they continue to battle for the top of their district. The first pitch will be at 6:00 p.m. and you can listen to the game on 1220 AM/100.3 The Tornado, on newsdakota.com, or on The Tornado app.
