WEST FARGO, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Cinderella run for the Post 14 Eagles came to a close on Saturday afternoon in the AA Legion State Championship game at Young Field as the Patriots defeated Jamestown, 2-1.

West Fargo put up a run in the first inning off an RBI single by Matt Heupel and used that opening run and the arm of Nolan Dodds to keep Jamestown at bay through the first six innings. The Patriots went ahead 2-0 in the fourth and held the Eagles to just two hits through six.

In the seventh, Payton Hochhalter and Carson Orr started the inning with back-to-back singles. After a Thomas Newman sac bunt, Gage Orr drove in Hochhalter with an infield single which put the go-ahead run on first and the tying run at third. Jamestown was unable to push across though Carson Orr and West Fargo punched its ticket to the Central Plains Regional Tournament with the win.

On the hill, Dodds tossed a complete game and struck out seven. For Jamestown, Jackson Walters was handed the loss despite giving up only two runs and striking out three. Out of the bullpen for the Eagles, Newman worked two scoreless innings.

At the plate, Connor Hoyt was 2-for-3 with a double. Hochhalter, Carson Orr, and Gage Orr all went 1-for-3. Post 14 had five total hits and one error defensively. West Fargo also had five hits and did not commit an error. Jamestown ends the season with a 15-18 overall record and a runner-up finish in the first year at the AA level.
