OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The BIO Girls program in Oakes is asking the public to come support them during their 5K fun run this Sunday, Sept. 25.

Created in Fargo, BIO Girls is a program that provides preventive mental wellness programming to girls across the Midwest.

Rebecca Undem is the director for the Oakes chapter. She says they have mentors and different “chapters” that girls follow to improve their self-esteem through empowerment of self and service to others.

Brynlee is 8 years-old and has participated in BIO Girls this year.

At the end of each program, the girls then run. Undem says this encourages a healthy lifestyle and trains them up to finish the year with a 5K.

On Sunday, Undem is encouraging members of the public to join them at the starting/finish line or along the run route to cheer on the girls as they complete the 5K Sunday.

The run is set to begin at 4 PM. Undem says they also hope to have the program return next year.
