VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Image Committee held it’s annual fall meeting. The group is comprised of volunteers and they all love trees.

A year ago they partnered with the Valley City Eagles Club and wrote a grant to plant a row of oak boulevard trees on the east side of the Eagles which are now planted and flourishing, enhancing the adjoining street. The grant was from the North Dakota Forest Service (America the Beautiful grant) for over $8,000 with the Eagles Club and volunteers providing $11,000 in match.

The previous year the Image Committee received a $10,000 grant from the ND Forest Service with close to $12,000 in match by volunteers, supplies/equipment, various donations including those made by Tony and Jane Diemert and Leevers Foods. That grant funded plantings at the Rosebud Visitors Center, College Street, the North West residential part of Valley City and on the boulevard east of Leevers Foods. This year a volunteer member, Dr. James Buhr, faithfully watered these 45 plus trees every week for eight weeks during the dry summer.

An anonymous Image member has faithfully worked to obtain the watering cart, and has been the key person in writing these two tree grants and many more.

Should anyone want to join the Image Committee or donate a tree to be planted anywhere in Valley City on public property, contact city hall, they will get you in touch with the Image Committee. Last year, the Myron Sommerfeld family donated funds for a Dutch elm resistant elm tree for City Park (A Tribute to Peggy Lee) and the Lloyd Miller family donated funds for an Autumn Blaze Buckeye, for City Park as well. Thanks to all of the volunteers and those who generously donated to the Tree Image Committee to improve the climate in Valley City.
