SIOUX CITY, IA. (NewsDakota.com) – For the first time in school history, the University of Jamestown will play for a National Championship as the #2 Jimmie women’s volleyball team outlasted #3 Midland in five sets. Set scores were 26-24, 15-25, 25-10, 18-25, and 15-12.

UJ was forced into a hole at the tail end of set one as Midland arrived at set point with a 24-23 lead. After a Darienne Johnson kill, Kalli Hegerle and Aleah Zieske hammered home back-to-back kills to give the Jimmies a set one victory.

Midland controlled the pace and tempo of set two, tying the match at one. The Jimmies dominated set three before Midland took care of the fourth set to send us to a decisive fifth set.

In set five, the Warriors took an 8-7 advantage before the teams switched sides. After Midland went up 9-7, Jamestown would score six of the next nine points, including the final three, to advance to the National Championship for the first time ever.

Kalli Hegerle’s 15 kills led the Jimmies while Anna Holen had 14 kills and 24 digs for a double-double. Lexi Olson, who propelled Jamestown to the third set victory, finished with 12 kills and nine blocks. Olson also hit .333. Zieske ended the night as the fourth UJ player in double figures with 10 kills.

Ellie Holen’s 30 digs were a match-high and Hegerle and Paige Oswald tallied 51 of the teams’ 58 assists on the evening. With the win, Jamestown picks up its first victory in four tries in the National Semifinals.
