JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The winter sports season starts to wind towards a close in the coming weeks as the Blue Jays wrapped up another busy weekend to kick off February.

BOY’S BASKETBALL: JAMESTOWN 75, TURTLE MOUNTAIN 70

Thomas Newman led the offensive charge for Jamestown on Saturday as the Jays beat Turtle Mountain for the second time this season. Payton Hochhalter added 15 points and Ryan Larson had 10 in the victory. Jamestown used a six point lead after the opening half of play to get the win, their seventh in the WDA. The Jays, now 8-6 overall and 7-6 in the West, host #1 Century on Tuesday night.

GIRL’S BASKETBALL: TURTLE MOUNTAIN 78, JAMESTOWN 77

A last second field goal for the second consecutive game thwarted Jamestown as the Jays fell to the Bravettes on Saturday. Ella and Katie Falk combined for 46 of the 77 points for the Jays and Haylie Hakanson chipped in 12 points in the loss. Jamestown has now fallen in back-to-back games by a single possession, but have a chance to get a huge win on Tuesday night against #1 Century. BOY’S HOCKEY: WEST FARGO 7, JAMESTOWN 5 (NON-CONFERENCE)

Offense was on full display for the Jays and Packers in non-conference play on Saturday in West Fargo. The Jays drop to 1-2 against the EDC this year despite scoring five goals. Jamestown’s overall record drops to 9-7-2 while the Blue Jays remain at 8-5-2-2 in the WDA. Jamestown hosts Mandan on Tuesday night with coverage from Wilson Arena on Q101 and newsdakota.com.

GYMNASTICS: JAMESTOWN FINISHES FOURTH AT MAGI BOWL

A team total score of 136.250 was good for fourth out of nine teams at the Magi Bowl this weekend for the Blue Jay gymnastics team. Julia Skari led the Jays with a ninth place finish in the all-around (34.300), with her best performance coming on vault where she took third (9.200). Allysah Larson ended the meet with the second best all-around score for Jamestown (33.150). Dickinson took first with a team total score of 144.225. Jamestown hosts a meet with Dickinson, Fargo, and Valley City on Friday night.
