David “Dave” William Maack, 78, Valley City, ND, passed to his heavenly home at Sheyenne Care Center on May 17, 2023. Services are pending. He will later be laid to rest at Harlem Cemetery with his family.

David was born June 6, 1944, in Britton, S.D. He attended school and graduated from Lisbon High School. He then spent a very brief time in the Navy. After leaving the navy he held a variety of jobs including working for his father moving buildings. In his 40’s Dave received his journalism degree from Moorhead State University. He was very proud of being a newspaper reporter and photographer. He even won a couple of awards along the way. Along with his various jobs he lived in many places in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

Dave’s greatest joys were his daughter and grandson. He would often tell people about his grandson and what wonderful things he had done. Other things that brought him pleasure were listening to music, his cats, taking photographs, making chili & pancakes, visiting with friends and family. He was a voracious reader and would take long baths to complete a book. He loved to travel and lived in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. At the age of 5 or 6 Dave became a Christian. He could often be heard discussing prophecy and the sermon. Dave loved people and to be alone. He was a great hugger. He believed everyone needed a hug. Jokes and laughter were a daily part of his life. He cared deeply.

Dave is survived by his daughter Jody (Phillip) Ormsby, and their son Jaden, of Midland, TX; his brother Don (Linda) Maack of Alexandria, MN; and his sister Bethel Maack of Fargo, ND. He also has numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. There are also a few aunts and uncles remaining. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Beverly Maack and his brother Daniel “Butch” Maack.

Donations in honor of his life may be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley or your favorite animal charity.
