FARGO – It could have been a huge upset for the Jamestown Eagles.  Instead, West Fargo broke the Eagles’ hearts.

Caleb Anderson hit a winning two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday for a 6-5 win for West Fargo over Jamestown in the AA Legion State Tournament at Starion Bank Field in Fargo.

Jamestown, the 10th seed, held a 4-0 lead through five and a half innings over second seed West Fargo before the Patriots tied the game with four runs in the sixth inning.

Jamestown (10-20) took the lead again with a run in the top of the eighth.

Derek Hatlewick, pitching in relief of Eagles’ starter Jaxon Kolpin, hit Brady Medina with one out in the bottom of the eighth.  Anderson, who had big swings in fouling off the first two pitches in his at bat, slammed a fastball over the left-field fence to end the dramatic game.

Kolpin, who allowed two runs and five hits in five and a third innings, stole home for Jamestown’s first run in the first inning.

Ethan Oettle and Tyson Jorissen delivered two-out RBI singles in the second inning for a 3-0 Jamestown advantage.

Brenner Weber beat out an infield hit with two out to drive in Jamestown’s fourth run in the fifth.

In West Fargo’s sixth inning rally, Cooper Fuchs singled in the first run, with the second scoring on an error, the third on a RBI groundball by Brody Medina and Jackson Glienke being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Jamestown began its eighth inning rally after two out.  Thomas Newman walked, stole second, then scored on a single by Jorissen.

Jamestown will play an elimination game Thursday against Williston.  Coverage will begin Thursday at around 1:15 on Jamestown 107.1.
