JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A former Jamestown elementary school teacher was sentenced to five years of supervised probation and 30 months (2.5 years) in prison after admitting to sexually abusing a former student when she was a minor.

Michael Romans pleaded guilty to corruption or solicitation of minors on Jan. 21. He was sentenced on May 5.

Romans taught at Gussner Elementary School and volunteered as a firefighter for the City of Jamestown before his arrest on Dec. 29

Court documents show Romans admitted to police he sexually abused a former student, acknowledging she was likely underage when the abuse began.

He also faces $1,800 in restitution. Romans received credit for 148 days already served. His confinement term was credited for 127 days plus 21 days of good time, equaling 148 days credit.
