BISMARCK – How close Jamestown Blue Jays Girls Soccer was to playing for fifth place at the state tournament.  But Minot made sure they wouldn’t.

Less than two minutes from suffering a second straight upset, the Majettes rallied for a tying goal late in regulation and then to win in penalty kicks Friday in a 2-1 consolation semifinal victory over the Blue Jays at the Sanford Sports Complex.

After the first half was goalless, Hannah Attleson gave Jamestown (9-8-1) a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute with her second goal of the season.

Minot, who had played in a state championship game for seven straight years and was shocked Thursday in a quarterfinal by West Fargo, evened the match with a 78th minute goal by Aleah Gibbons.

In the penalty kick shootout, Minot (14-3-1) won 3-2 to advance to Saturday’s fifth place match against Davies.

Belle Sjostrom made four saves in goal for Jamestown.
