VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Candidates in contested races for local offices were featured at the May 30th primary election forum hosted by the League of Women Voters (LWV) volunteers. More than 100 people attended the event which was held in the Hi-Liner Activity Center (HAC) at Valley City High School.

For County candidates Data Centers and Hog Farms were one of the key topic’s attendees wanted to know how the candidates stood on the issue. They also wanted to know if county or city officials have been approached by prospective companies to sign any non-disclosure agreements.

For city commission and mayoral candidates, attendees wanted to know what is being done to attract more businesses as more space is available for prospective businesses after two more buildings were vacated this year following the closure of two businesses in downtown district. Attendees also wanted to know if the city is working on attracting a second grocery store.

Except for the School Board election, in-person voting on June 9 will be from 7 AM to 7 PM at the Barnes County Courthouse. To vote by mail/absentee ballot, visit or call the Barnes County Auditor Office (701-845-8500). For school board race, to vote absentee prior to June 9, call or stop by the VCPS District Office. In-person voting will be held June 9th from 9 AM to 7 PM, again at 460 Central Ave. N.

The city, park board and school board races will be decided in the June 9 election. In each county race, the top two candidates who receive the most amount of votes on June 9 will advance to the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 3rd.
