VALLEY CITY, N.D. — Runners, walkers, and families are invited to take part in the 44th Annual Bill Jansen Road Race/Walk on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Charlie Brown Field in Valley City.

The event honors the legacy of Bill Jansen, a longtime Valley City High School boys and girls cross country and track and field coach who dedicated his life to encouraging youth, promoting healthy lifestyles, and building community connections. Jansen was also a Charter Member of the Valley City Optimist Club and founded the Optimist Club Road Race/Walk in 1981. He organized and managed the event until his passing from leukemia in 2003. In recognition of his contributions, the Valley City Optimist Club renamed the race in his honor. Following the dissolution of the Optimist Club, Valley City Parks and Recreation assumed responsibility for the event and has continued the annual tradition, ensuring Bill’s legacy lives on through one of Valley City’s longest-running community races.

Participants of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join VCPR during Community Days. Race day registration begins at 7:00 a.m. and will remain open until 7:50 a.m. The race will start promptly at 8:00 a.m. from the northeast corner of Charlie Brown Field.
