OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – On Friday, October 9, the North Dakota State Patrol, the Dickey County Sheriff’s Office, and Oakes Police Department will team up to conduct a sobriety checkpoint at a predetermined location in Dickey County. Saturation patrols will be conducted following the checkpoint.
As of September 28, 2026, there have been 80 fatalities in 73 crashes on North Dakota roadways this year. Twenty-two of the fatalities (27.5%) were related to crashes involving alcohol.
“Keeping our roads safe is a goal we all share. Whether it’s planning a sober ride home; slowing down; buckling up; or staying focused behind the wheel; every choice makes a difference. The North Dakota State Patrol is committed to working alongside our communities to prevent impaired driving, promote safe decisions and help ensure everyone makes it home safely,” stated Sgt. Jonathan Skalicky, ND State Patrol Southeast Regional Sergeant.
The North Dakota State Patrol is committed to Vision Zero and the belief that every life matters and that no loss of life on our roadways is acceptable. Through education, enforcement and responsible decisions behind the wheel, we can work together to prevent crashes, protect one another and save lives. Together, we can move North Dakota closer to a future with zero traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
Results from this planned enforcement will be posted to the ND State Patrol website the week following the enforcement.
