
JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Jimmies Softball split a doubleheader with Minot State Thursday in the Nelson Family Bubble. Minot State took game one 9-0, then Jamestown romped in the nightcap 9-2.
These were non-conference games.
Game 1: Minot St. 9, Jamestown 0 (5)
Pitcher Katie Newberry (3-0) dominated the game for Minot State (9-2), shutting out Jamestown (9-3) on two hits while striking out nine and walking one. The Jimmies never had a runner past first base.
All the Beavers’ runs came in the third inning, including two-run doubles by Sara Van Wickler and Maizy Whitlow.
The big inning knocked out UJ starter Hope Ransome (2-3). She yielded seven runs and six hits in two and two-thirds innings with five strikeouts, a walk and a hit batter.
Game 1: Jamestown 9, Minot St. 2
Maddie Spaeth and Joria Hainsworth each drove in three runs for the Jimmies (10-3) and Abby Blair pitched five effective innings to earn the split for Jamestown.
After Minot State (9-3) scored twice in the top of the first inning, Spaeth evened the game in the bottom of the frame with a two-run triple. Madelyn Webb followed with a single to bring in Spaeth and UJ led for good.
Hainsworth hit an RBI double in the third for a 4-2 Jamestown lead. Spaeth drove in a run with a ground ball in the fourth.
Kate Geiszler made the Jimmie lead 6-2 in the fifth with a sacrifice fly. The last three Jamestown runs were tallied in the sixth on an RBI single by Natalie Draper and a two-run single by Hainsworth.
Blair (5-0) worked the first five innings in the circle, allowing two runs and two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Jamestown will begin six days of games in Cocoa Beach, Florida on Sunday as part of the Space Coast Spring Games. UJ will play Michigan-Dearborn and Walsh University.
