This year’s speaker is Dr. Ann Braaten speaking on “Changing Hearts and Minds: Woman Suffragists in North Dakota.” The campaign to enfranchise women ended on Aug. 26, 1920 when the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution was put into law. This presentation will focus on the suffrage campaign in North Dakota and two prominent suffragists: Elizabeth Preston Anderson and Kate Selby Wilder and plans in the state to celebrate the centennial of the federal amendment.
Ann W. Braaten, PhD, is an associate professor of practice in the Department of Apparel, Design and Hospitality Management and curator of the Emily Reynolds Historic Costume Collection at North Dakota State University, Fargo.
