CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Viking softball team picked up two wins Saturday at the Morningside Invitational in Sioux City, IA, evening their tournament record at 2-2 and running their overall mark to 12-9.

The Vikings topped Midland Lutheran, NE 3-1 in their opening game of the day. Cyndi Figol (Sr., Brandon, MB) and Jennifer Shadlock (Sr., Brandon, MB) supplied the offense, with the pair combining for four of the Vikings six hits, tallying all three runs, and Figol driving in a run.

Katie McBride (Sr., Grand Rapids, MN) continued her fine season, throwing seven innings of three-hit softball, striking out two while walking one, in the win.

The Vikings then blitzed Dakota Wesleyan, SD 13-0 in five innings, erupting for 12 runs in the first three innings. Adrianna Boychuk (Jr., Portage La Prairie, MB) led a 16-hit Viking attack with a 3-4 performance. Jane Pettit (Sr., Rushford, MN) was 2-3 with a triple and two RBI.

McBride threw again, working four innings of one-hit softball. Paige Brandvold (Fr., Valley City, ND) worked the fifth inning, striking out a batter and not allowing a hit.

The Vikings face Mount Marty, SD and host team Morningside, IA Sunday to finish the tournament.
