CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner girls tennis season came to an end after two rounds of the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) tennis tournament yesterday.

The Hi-Liners were topped by West Fargo 5-0, and then came up short in a 3-2 loss to Fargo South.  The doubles teams of Sam Coit-Sara Gilbertson and Destiny Winkler-Jessica Gylden earned the wins over the Bruins.

“We fought well in the South match, winning the doubles matches, but South’s top three singles were favored and won,” said head coach Matt Nielson.  “We tried to play the underdog role, but fell short.”

South, the sixth seed, went on to upset four-seed Fargo Davies to qualify for the state meet.

Individual play starts today, and Nielson says the doubles team of Kierstin Lorenz and Clarissa Olson are hopeful of a state-qualifying bid.
