N.D. (NewsDakota.com) From a bust in the ’80’s to a boom today, Tioga, the official oil capital of North Dakota is on the grow. The oil activity has brought a number of people from across the U.S. to western North Dakota.
People like David Young, from Casper, WY, who had nothing, are now earning big money working in the oil fields. He came to Tioga on a one-way bus trip and is now excited to start a new life.
Mayor Nathan Germundson says, “The city’s number one concern is how to deal with the ever-expanding needs in relation to the infrastructure.” Germundson is a volunteer firefighter and serves as an EMT on the volunteer ambulance service. He says, “Some members have been burned out and have quit from exhaustion, as annual calls have jumped from more than 100 per year to nearly 300 last year.”
The first oil well in North Dakota was on the Iverson land south of Tioga in 1952. NewsDakota.com will have additional stories on this website as our visit to the “Heart of the Oil Patch” unfolds.
