(NewsDakota.com) The 11 Man West defeated the 11 Man East team, and the 9 Man East team took down the 9 Man West team at the 2012 Shrine Bowl played at Fargo Shanley High School on Saturday afternoon.

11 Man: West 22 East 13

The West used a solid rushing game, as well as establishing long drives in the third quarter to milk the clock and hold off the high flying pass offense of the East to exact revenge for the lopsided loss suffered last year. Stanley’s Landon Smith scored a touchdown, and rushed for 67 of the West’s total of 254 yards.

The East tried to counter with the passing game, and was effective with Milnor/North Sargent’s Josh Hansana throwing for two touchdowns and 220 yards in the defeat. Wapheton’s Zane Medhaug was the leading rusher for the East, with just 54 yards.

9 Man: East 28 West 20

In the nightcap, Napoleon-Gackle/Streeter’s Wade Rath-Wald caught two touchdowns, including a 51 yard strike from high school teammate Jonah Schwartzenberger to aid the East to victory. North Sargent’s Justin Arp also hauled in a 53 yard TD pass.

The West made a run of it towards the end of the game, but a safety on quarterback McCahen Schweitzer in the fourth quarter proved to be just the amount of cushion the East needed.  Divide County’s Andreas Holm caught two touchdown passes of 12 and 14 yards from Central McClean’s Matthew Landenberger for the west.
