CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Courtney Titus was perfect from the field Monday night, scoring 18 points as she led the Valley City State women’s basketball team to a 68-60 victory over University of Minnesota-Crookston.

Titus was 5-for-5 shooting and 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. She also added four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the victory.

Brittany Lehner added 14 points and Alyssa Hummel scored 11 for VCSU, which improves to 2-1 this season.

The Vikings trailed 52-46 in the second half Monday, but closed the game on a 22-8 run, including a 12-0 run to regain the lead at 58-52.


Crookston closed to gap to two points a few times in the final minutes, but big buckets by Alyssa Hummel and Sadiqah Jihad held off the Crookston rally.



VCSU shot 58 percent in the second half (15-for-26) and 50 percent for the game.

Brittani Weise scored 15 to lead the Eagles in defeat. It was the season opener for Crookston, an NCAA Division II team from the NSIC.

The Vikings host St. Cloud State, another NSIC team, on Wednesday night, 7 p.m. at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
