N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – University of Jamestown presented three alumni with the Young Alumni Medallion at Opening Convocation held Sept. 4 in the Reiland Fine Arts Center’s DeNault Auditorium.

Dr. Candace (Rohwedder) Granberg is a 2000 graduate. Granberg is a pediatric urologist and Assistant Professor of Pediatric Urology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. After receiving her degree in chemistry from the University of Jamestown, Granberg attended the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, receiving her M.D. in 2005. She completed her residency in urology at Mayo Clinic in 2010 and a pediatric urology fellowship at the Children’s Medical Center, Dallas, in 2012. Granberg holds professional memberships in the American Urological Association, the Society of Pediatric Urology, the Society of Women in Urology, and the Minnesota Urological Society.

Lt. Tom Iverson is a 2004 graduate. Iverson is the Safety and Education Officer/Public Information Officer with the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Bismarck, N.D. Iverson began his career with the NDHP a month after graduating from the University of Jamestown with a major in Criminal Justice and minors in Sociology and Physical Education. Iverson then went on to a Master’s degree in Management in 2008 from the University of Mary. He is a 2012 graduate of Leadership in Police Organizations and is an Executive Board Member of the North Dakota Peace Officers Association. Iverson was promoted to Lieutenant in 2014.

Dr. Cody Garrison is a 2008 graduate. Garrison is a dentist at Inner City Health Center, Denver, Colo. He received his degree in accounting from University of Jamestown and went on to the University of Colorado where he received his DDS degree in 2012. Garrison is an Executive Board member and Board Secretary for the Howard Dental Center, and he serves on the Membership Council of the Colorado Dental Association. Garrison is also an adjunct faculty member in Metro State University Denver’s music department as a collaborative pianist.

Each honoree designated a mentor from the University’s faculty or staff. Dr. Granberg named Dr. Carl Steffan, Professor of Chemistry; Lt. Iverson named Dr. Jim Stone, Professor of Criminal Justice and Sociology; Dr. Garrison named Rick Walentine, Professor of Music.

The Young Alumni Medallion is presented each year to young alumni of the University of Jamestown who exemplify the characteristics of a liberal arts education while demonstrating lifelong learning, community service, and character.
