R. Meyer, 81, of Oakes, ND, passed away October 27, 2014, at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, ND.

Ben Ray, son of John and Lillian (Pfutzenreuter) Meyer was born on July 11, 1933 on a farm northwest of Hecla, South Dakota, where he grew up and attended school. He served his country in the U.S. Army for two years, being stationed at Camp Chaffee, Arizona and Bonnholder, Germany. After his discharge, Ben returned to the Hecla area and farmed for a few years and also drove truck. In 1972 he moved to Oakes, and continued to drive truck, hauling machinery for several years.

He was united in marriage to Diane Arneson on her parent’s wedding day, April 25, 1975. They were blessed with two children, LaVonne and Cory. In June of 1982, they purchased their own truck and went into business “Meyer Trucking”, which he owned and operated until his retirement. Over the years, Ben had hauled cattle, hogs, machinery and grain. He had driven many, many miles and had seen many states.

Ben loved to farm, truck, and watch the jets in the sky. He enjoyed going to tractor and pick-up pulls, and threshing bees. Ben was a member of the Ludden Sportsmen and the American Legion.

Ben will be greatly missed by Diane, his wife of 39 years; two children, LaVonne (Barry) Tanner and Cory (Brandi) Meyer, all of Oakes; eight grandchildren, Kelly, KaCee, Katelynn, McKenzie, Trever, Alexis, Tory, & Jaydon; and two great-grandchildren, Josie & Shay. He is also survived by seven sisters, Vera Henningsen, Betty Elsner, Deloris (Art) Strutz, Ardis (John) Aberle, Virginia (Leo) Pratschner, Sharon Fields, and Nancy (John) Mangin; three brothers, Dale Meyer, John Meyer, and Fred (Sharon) Meyer; and sister-in-law, Lila Meyer. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, a brother, Roy and nieces and nephews.

Ben, we will love you forever and you will always be in our hearts.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. followed by his funeral at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Oakes. Burial will be at the Ludden Cemetery. An on-line guestbook may be signed at www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com
