S.D. – The first edition of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Football Players-of-the-Week was announced by the conference office today. Kurtis Walls of Valley City State (N.D.) was selected as Offensive Player-of-the-Week, while Celestino White of Presentation (S.D.) was picked as Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Dustin Wilke of Waldorf (Iowa) was named as NSAA Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.

NSAA Football Offensive Player of the Week

Kurtis Walls – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6’3” – 197 lbs., Junior – quarterback – Laveen, Ariz. – Walls set new school records for completions (30) and passing yards (512) in Valley City State’s (N.D.) 41-31 victory over arch-rival Jamestown (N.D.) their 115th meeting. He was 30-of-45 passing for 512 yards with four touchdown passes and two interceptions. Walls passed for three touchdowns in the second half as the Vikings – ranked 17th in the NAIA Football Preseason Coaches’ poll – overcame an 18-14 halftime deficit.

NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week

Celestino White – Presentation (S.D.) – 6’1” – 240 lbs., Senior – defensive lineman – St. Thomas, Virgin Islands – White tallied 11 tackles in Presentation’s (S.D.) 23-14 road victory at Briar Cliff (Iowa). He had five solo tackles and six assist tackles. White had four tackles-for-loss of 15 yards and collected two quarterback sacks for the Saints.

NSAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week

Dustin Wilke – Waldorf (Iowa) – 6’1” – 200 lbs., Junior – kicker – Holzgerlingen, Germany – Wilke accounted for all nine of Waldorf’s (Iowa) points with three field goals of 36-yard, 31-yard and 44-yards. Despite the 34-9 loss to Kansas Wesleyan, he recorded five punts for a total of 174 yards and four kickoffs for a total of 257 yards. He averaged 64.2 yards on kickoffs and 34.8 yards on punts.
