CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liner wrestling team  had a great showing at Sertoma Wrestling Tournament held at Grand Forks Central High December 11th and 12th.  The Hi-Liners finished in 5th place in the 16 team field.  The tournament field was one of the deepest in recent memory with many of the top North Dakota and Minnesota schools in attendance.

The Hi-Liners had an opening round win over a tough Central Cass team 39-24.  The two big matches of the dual were Jakob Ashline knocking off Andrew Jahnkey of Casselton 7-0.  Jahnkey is ranked #1 in North Dakota Class B at 138 pounds and at 152lbs Logan Erlandson knocked off Nate Volk 12-8. Volk is ranked #2 at 152lbs in Class B. 

In the quarterfinals Valley City squared off with Minnesota AA powerhouse Perham.  Valley City wrestled well before falling 46-25. In the Consolation bracket Valley City met North Dakota West Region Foe Turtle Mountain Community High School.  TMCHS is ranked #9 in the latest North Dakota Class A wrestling poll.  Valley City prevailed in a hard fought dual 42-32.  Big pins for the Hi-Liners came from Noah Kaber at 182lbs and Jaden Oestern at 195lbs.

In the consolation semi-finals the Hi-Liners faced another Minnesota power in Thief River Falls.  The Hi-Liners seemed a bit flat and dropped a tough match to the Prowlers 43-33.

In the 5th place the Hi-Liners had one more Minnesota Single A power Badger Greenish Middle River. BGMR is ranked as a Lean and Mean team in the latest Guillotine rankings. Valley City saved there best for last and wrestled a great dual and picked up a 49-30 win. 

Valley City had four wrestlers finish the tournament undefeated.  At 120lbs 8th grader Parker Larson went 5-0 with 4 pins and improved his season record to 10-1.  At 138lbs Jakob Ashline went 5-0 knocking off 2 wrestlers ranked in Minnesota and 1 in North Dakota. Jakob improved his season record to 10-1. At 152 lbs sophomore Logan Erlandson went 5-0 and improved his season record to 9-2. At 220 lbs Senior Jordan Magnuson went 5-0 with 4 pins and 1 forfeit. Jordan is the top ranked wrestler in the state at 220lbs and improved his season record to 12-0.
