N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – During the month of February, the NDDOT and Highway Patrol teamed up to enforce extra patrols throughout the state to enforce seat belt safety.

According to the North Dakota Department of Transportation, a total of 2,082 citations were attributed to added patrols. Of the citations, 727 were for failure to use a proper safety restraint and 37 were child restraint violations. Other citations included 722 for speeding, five felony violations, 18 drug arrests, four DUIs and four for distracted driving.

The increase in law enforcement for traffic safety is to help eliminate roadway deaths in North Dakota. Failure to use a seat belt has been the most significant factor associated with motor vehicle crash injuries and deaths.
