CITY (NewsDakota.com)- After holding a pregame ceremony to honor the parents and seniors, The VCHS Boys’ Basketball Team defeated Wahpeton for the 2nd time this season 52-39. The girls’ weren’t as fortunate, they couldn’t survive a 2nd half charge from The Huskies and fell 65-45. Both teams are back home Friday for an EDC doubleheader against Sheyenne.

 

BBB: VCHS 52 Wahpeton 39

The Hi-Liners scored 26 points in both quarters to defeat Wahpeton 52-39. After Wahpeton opened scoring teams went back and forth and tied 9 times in the first half. Valley City held on to a 26-24 half time lead. In the 2nd half Valley City scored 9 straight points and started to pull away from The Huskies. After leading by 14 The Hi-Liners wouldn’t let Wahpeton get any closer than 10. 

The Hi-Liners improved to 5-8 and 3-8 in The EDC. Nate Rodriguez led Valley City with 16 points. Levi Nix had 15 and Justin Manson and Drew Oberlander 6. Zach Manock and Daniel Pithey were in double digits for Wahpeton. Manock with 11 and Pithey with 10. 

GBB: Wahpeton 65 VCHS 45

Behind Tylee Irwin’s 18 second half points Wahpeton got the win against Valley City 65-45. The Huskies scored 4 straight to start the game and had a 7 point advantage. Valley City began to come back and tied the game at 12. Teams traded leads and after breaking a 20-20 tied it looked like The Hi-Liners would have a 22-20 advantage at the end of the 1st quarter. Emily Schuster of Wahpeton made a final second 3 to put her team back on top. The Huskies would never trail the rest of the night. 

Irwin ended the night with 29 points. Schuster scored 11. Valley City was led by 15. Lexi Ondracek had 8.
