N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown’s improbable run to the West Region Championship game ended just a few outs shy of the title. The Jays lost a 5-4 decision in eight innings to the defending Class A baseball champions from Dickinson.

Dickinson (30-3) got the tying run to third with one out in the bottom of the seventh and scored a sacrifice fly. They eventually won the game on an RBI single from pinch hitter Chase Ballard. Lucas Jones lead off the eighth with a double and scored on  Ballard’s single.

Jones was the second pitcher that went for Dickinson after relieving Cam Jorda and he was lights out. Jones got the win for four innings of no-hit ball while striking out seven.

Nolan Kratz pitched into the seventh for the Jays was lifted with one out after walking the second batter. Ben Friebel took the loss.

Jamestown (18-19) will play Sheyenne in the opening round of the state tournament on Thursday in Mandan. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm, it will be the second game of the day.

The Mustangs, who lost to Dickinson in last year’s state championship, are the EDC’s number three seed after beating Central 10-0 (5) on Saturday. They entered the tournament as the sixth-seed.
