(NewsDakota.com) The Carrington Post 25, Nelson County Post 162, Thompson Post 181 and Kidder County Post 231 American Legion baseball teams won on the opening day of the State Class B Tournament in Steele Wednesday.

Carrington Post 25  10  Hazen Post 189  2

The three time defending State Champions started off well in the opening round, propelled by a six run third inning; featuring a three-run home run by Alex Stusynski. Jayden Shipman earned the win for Post 25, going four innings with three strikeouts.

Chase Bauer took the loss for Post 189, going five innings, and surrendering nine hits and nine earned runs.

Nelson County Post 162  7  Enderlin Post 221 0

The second game saw the Railcats of Enderlin being shutout while stranding seven runners on base. Chance Bye was the lone member of the team to reach third base in the contest.

The bottom third of the Post 162 order accounted for five of the runs, and Cole Varson earned the win; striking out 10. Jorun Hamre struck out nine, but walked six, and three runners scored via wild pitches in the Enderlin loss.

Thompson Post 181  18  Oakes Post 36  0  (4.5 Innings)

Post 181 scored 11 runs in the second inning and never looked back. Trey Larimer hit two home runs in the game, including a grand slam to help Thompson into the winners bracket. 

Cayden Schwabe struck out four in four innings to earn the win. Oakes managed just three hits and failed to reach third base. Grayson Roney was the losing pitcher, going a inning and two-thirds, with nine runs on six hits. 

Kidder County Post 231   2  Burlington 0

Dillion Steinolfson hit a solo home run in the first inning, and Post 231 added an insurance run in the seventh to ensure the victory in front of the home fans.

Thursday’s play starts with a pair of loser-out contests. At 10 a.m., Hazen meets Enderlin, followed  35 minutes later with Oakes and Burlington. Winners bracket games make up games three and four, with Carrington and Nelson County meeting, followed 35 minutes later with Thompson and Kidder County.
