N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A once gravel surface, 5th Street NE is now paved over and working its way through the final phase.

The $2.5 million project included new curb and gutter along with sidewalks on the road from 12th Avenue to 27th Avenue NE. Ben Aaseth with Interstate Engineering reports that the completion date was set for October 15th, but the contractor reported that there was still some things that needed to be finished.

“I am guessing the road will be done and striped by the end of next week,” Aaseth reported in an e-mail. “There will be work going on behind the back of the curb as well.”

Right now, Aaseth says the concrete subcontractor is working on the final speed table this week.

“Top lift of the hot bituminous pavement will be on the final two phases next week,” Aaseth pointed out. “[The] sidewalk and others behind the curb work will continue over the next three weeks.”
