N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The United Way of Stutsman County welcomed Lana Meissner, 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21 CCLC) MOST site coordinator for Jamestown to present at its monthly meeting in October.
The North Dakota South East Education Cooperative (SEEC) operates the MOST (Meaningful Out of School Time) in Jamestown. MOST is a United Way Agency and has three participating schools in Jamestown. Student registrations in Jamestown are at the following participating schools: Lincoln Elementary School:70 students, Roosevelt Elementary School: 55, and Washington Elementary School has 35. The program is open for children from kindergarten through 5th grade. Scholarships are available for eligible families.
This program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during out-of-school time for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and/or low-performing schools. It helps students meet state and local education standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers other educational services to the families of participating children.
Lana Meissner noted the program is structured to ensure there is a nice balance of educational activities as well as recreational. United Way funds are used for snacks, activity items and staff needed to run the program. Lana was proud to announce that they utilize local university students in the educational programs which is very beneficial for the university and the MOST program. United Way of Stutsman County thanks Lana and the MOST program for presenting at the monthly meeting and for their work in this important program for our community. The United Way of Stutsman County will be supporting the following agencies during this year’s fundraising campaign: Alano Society, Boy Scouts – Northern Lights, Camp Rokiwan, Child Care Aware, Community Corrections, Girl Scouts – Dakota Horizons, Imagination Library, James River Transit, MOST/21st Cen. After School, PATH, Safe Shelter, Salvation Army, SANE/SART, Senior Companion Program, and The Arts Center.
