JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – As a personal platform, Miss America Cara Mund has advocated for the Make-A-Wish Foundation for several years.

During the Denim & Diamonds Gala, Miss Mund was able to talk with a special someone who has been helped by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

8 year-old Ryder Schlafman-Heib’s wish came true in February 2017 when she was able to visit Walt Disney World Resort in Florida with her family. She was diagnosed with CHARGE syndrome along with scoliosis. She lives in Carrington, North Dakota.

Ryder was interviewed by Miss Mund during the 4th Annual Denim & Diamonds Gala.

Ryder says a big highlight was seeing all the animals on a trip she’ll never forget.

Ryder then got a chance to thank the Make-A-Wish Foundation and everyone who made her wish come true.

The interview was part of the annual JakeStar Fundraiser, which raised around $34,000. But many of the 200 participants would agree that the interview between Ryder and Miss Mund stole the show.

Ryder was one of over 800 wishes granted to children with life-threatening medical conditions since 1985. You can watch the full interview with Miss America Cara Mund below, courtesy of Monica Heib.
