VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The month of January was unkind to VCSU men’s basketball, they went just 2-5 and dropped to last place in The North Star Athletic Association. To make the postseason they’d needed to win out the season and The Vikings rose to the challenge.

They’ve won their last 6 games topped off by a 83-73 win at Waldorf University last Friday. VCSU started at 0-4 in The NSAA and finished 7-9. The dynamic of the team had been altered through out the course of the season due to some injuries including one to reigning conference defensive player of the year Austin Dunbar.

Coach Ryan Montgomery credits VCSU’s turn around to having a healthy team

As the 8th seed in the postseason tournament The Vikings drew conference champions Bellevue University. The Bruins, who’ve received votes in the latest NAIA national poll, finished 11-5 in The NSAA.

The Vikings winning streak started with a 66-65 at home against Bellevue. Of The Bruins top 3 scorers, two were held to their averages and while one, Jalen Hall, was scoreless. VCSU will look to do the same again Thursday night

The Bruins and Vikings play Thursday night at 7 in Bellevue, Nebraska. Tip-off is at the 7, pregame begins around 6:45 on KOVC 1490 AM/96.3 FM and NewsDakota.com
