FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Looking for their first trip to state since 1998, The Lisbon Broncos fell to defending state champion Kindred 63-51 in The Region 1 Championship Game Friday night in Fargo.

The Broncos started off hot scoring 7 straight points but struggled once The Vikings defense settled in. Kindred worked their way back into the game by forcing 18 first half turnovers. In period 2 there was 5 lead changes with the final going to Kindred as they went up 33-27 at halftime.

In the 3rd quarter Kindred used a 7-0 run to pull away. Lisbon fell behind by 13 in the 4th quarter and could get no closer than 9.

Kindred was led by Abby Duchscherer and Tori Braaten who scored 17 points each. Terryn Johnson added 15.

The Broncos led scorer all season long was Elizabeth Lyons and she’d end her season and career as that with 18 points. Jamie Reinke scored 12 and Kaitlin Geyer 11.

Lisbon, who had won 13 straight heading into Friday, ends one of their most successful seasons in recent history with an 18-5 record.

Kindred moves to 19-4, they are seeded 4th in state the tournament. The Vikings play 5th seeded Grant County.
