KINDRED, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The Kindred boys and Milnor-Wyndmere-Lidgerwood and Central Central Cass girls track and field teams were tops at the 2018 North Dakota Class B Southeast Region Meet Saturday at Kindred High School.

The Viking boys won the meet with a team score of 160.5 points, followed by M-W-L (107) and Northern Cass (75.5).

Regional meet state qualifiers from the area include Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier’s Jorgen Paulson in the 100 meter dash and long jump, Issac Huber in the 800 meter run and Phillip Hagen in the triple jump, Maple Valley-Enderlin’s Arthur Punton in the 400 meter dash, Lisbon’s Wyatt Runck in the 110 meter hurdles, and Sargent Central’s Adam Neustel in the shot put. Oakes’ Ashton Biesterfeld in the discuss and the Tornado 4×800 relay team also qualified for state.

E-K-M’s Issac Huber broke his regional record from last year in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.77, almost two seconds better than 2017.

The M-W-L and Central Cass girls both won the meet with teams score of 100.5 points, followed by Lisbon with 91 points.

Girls regional meet state qualifiers from the area include Lisbon’s Kalli Lautt in the 300 meter hurdles, Oakes’ Laine Awender and LaMoure-LM’s Rachel Hoff in the 100 meter dash, Maple Valley-Enderlin’s Tessa Schroeder in the 100 meter hurdles, Oakes’ Awender along with E-K-M’s Kaitlyn Schiele and MVE’s Emma Baasch in the 200 meter dash, Sargent Central’s Darby Swanson in the high jump and Shelby Dietz in the shot put, E-K-M’s Scheile in the long jump , MVE’s Schroeder in the triple jump, Oakes’ Shayla Novack in the javelin, Claire Wagner in the pole vault, and the Tornado 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams were also state qualifiers.

Oakes’ Lanie Awender set a regional record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.39 seconds, and MVE’s Tessa Schroeder set a new triple jump record with a jump of 36 feet 9.25 inches.

Maple Valley-Enderlin’s Tessa Schroeder and Arthur Punton were named Senior Athletes of The Year. Central Cass’ Glenn Grommesh was selected as Girls Coach of The Year, and M-W-L’s Chris Gleason won Boys Coach of The Year honors.

The 2018 North Dakota State Class A and B Track and Field Meet is Friday May 25 and Saturday May 26 at the MDU Resources Community Bowl in Bismarck.
