JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NDSU) – Sheep producers will have an opportunity to learn how to set up sheep-working facilities and barns on their operation during an evening seminar Aug. 3 at the Stutsman County Fairgrounds in Jamestown, N.D.
North Dakota State University Extension and the North Dakota Lamb and Wool Producers Association (NDLWPA) are hosting the seminar, which will begin at 5 p.m.
Sheep industry professionals, including Jake Herrig, Sydell, Inc.; Alan Hendrickx, Hendrickx Manufacturing; Dan Persons, Shearwell Data Ltd.; and Jeff Hildebrand, Winckler Structures, will offer thoughts and examples of ways to improve sheep operation facilities.
“Each producer’s facilities can either help them meet their goals or frustratingly limit their progress and efficiency,” says Travis Hoffman, NDSU Extension sheep specialist. “This topic is best addressed with hands-on demonstrations and learning from other sheep colleagues.”
Sheep equipment companies will showcase their options, and company representatives will discuss hoop barn and facility alternatives.
A picnic supper will follow the seminar. Attendees also will have an opportunity to view the sheep consigned to the following day’s NDLWPA Jamestown Ram Sale.
“This event is an opportunity to address current sheep production topics,” Hoffman says. “We can all make improvements on our own facilities.
“Also, the ram sale will offer top genetics from a variety of breeds,” he notes. “There will be an opportunity to purchase either high-quality rams or productive ewes.”
