VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The cost estimate to renovate a portion of the Barnes County Correctional Facility was estimated at $3.5 million dollars last week.

Barnes County jail committee member Randy McClaflin said the estimate is only for a portion of the existing facility and does not include new cell blocks or jail doors.

Jail committee chairperson Bill Carlblom said this option doesn’t fix everything. Last week, Carlblom encouraged the committee to schedule a public input meeting to see what direction the community wants the county to take concerning the jails future.

The Jail Committee will tonight (September 18th) to discuss the current status of the Barnes County Jail. The meeting will start about 7pm or following the conclusion of the 6:00 pm public hearing on the proposed Barnes County 2019 budget. All are welcome to attend both meetings.
