JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Cancer Support Group has raised a substantial amount through their annual fundraiser that will go on to help area travelers get to their cancer treatments.

First known as Help for Hope and Healing (HHH), the group set out with the goal of matching the needs of families dealing with cancer with volunteers willing to meet those needs.

To do this, the group raises money to purchase gas cards which are given to individuals through a referral process.

Volunteer Beth Dewald says they have continued to see an increase in those seeking help with the gas cards. Their annual Quarter Craze fundraiser has become a big source for funding their mission.

Volunteer Kim Weyer believes the $11,000 raised will purchase a lot of their cards, but they don’t think it’ll get them through an entire year.

With referals coming from Stutsman, Dickey, Foster, Barnes, LaMoure, and Eddy counties, the money they have raised will deplete quickly. The group has provided over $10,500 in gas gift cards since 2017.

Another way the group continues to help out cancer patients is through Chemo Bags. Kim Weyer is also a director with Clever Container, which donates a bag for each 5 that are sponsored. These Chemo Bags are kept at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center and are given to those going through infusions at the hospital.

Weyer says the Quarter Craze really helped promote the Chemo Bags too.
