VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Authorities are investigating what caused the death of a teenage boy whose body was found laying on the Canadian Pacific Railroad tracks around 1:30p.m. on Thursday, January 17 northeast of Valley City.

The Valley City Police Department issued this news release concerning the incident.

Police Chief Phil Hatcher said officers with the police department and the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the northeastern part of Valley City along the CP Railway for an unknown medical issue. Officers began an unattended death investigation upon confirmation of deceased status. Hatcher said more information will be released later pending the investigation status. A short time later Valley City School Superintendent Josh Johnson issued this news release to students, parents and the media.

Johnson said, “It is with great sadness that Valley City Public Schools confirms the passing of Valley City High School student Chase Jenison.

Students and staff will need to pull together and in the days to come in order to find a new normal without Chase. We are grateful for the support from our community partners and other districts in our area.”
