City, N.D. –Authorities say a 28-year old Hawley, Minnesota man escaped serious injury after the SUV he was driving went into Hobart Lake west of Valley City about midnight.

Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin says the man told authorities that a second individual was with him in the vehicle.

He says, so far, no other individual has been located either in the vehicle or near the crash scene in the water.

McClaflin says members of the Valley City Barnes County dive team began searching for the submerged vehicle about 3am today.

McClaflin says alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges are pending against the driver and the incident remains under investigation.
