Lake, N.D. — The Devils Lake outlet is experiencing more pump problems.
State Water Commission Engineer Todd Sando says that the outlet is running at only half capacity because a second pump has been shut down. He says the water flow is down to 125 cubic feet per second instead of the normal 250 cfs.
Sando says officials don’t yet know what the problem is with the pump, but it could be related to erosion of the outlet channel.
A pump that developed problems earlier this summer has been sent to the California manufacturer for repairs. Sando says officials don’t know how long the pumps will be out of service.
The outlet has a total of 8 pumps that help divert lake floodwaters into the Sheyenne River.
