CITY (NewsDakota.com)–A former Oakes, ND resident was a first-hand witness to today’s earthquake that struck Virginia.
Carson Aune, who is working as a doctor of chiropractic in Alexandria, VA, about 20 miles from Washington, DC, found himself in the middle of a magnitude 5.9 earthquake that struck near Mineral, VA, about 83 miles southwest of Washington.
Aune went outside to see the impact to his region, and found several that had been evacuated from their buildings.

Aune said the entire quake, where he is located, lasted about five seconds.
Government buildings were evacuated, and pictures fell from the walls of the capital building. The US Geological Survey says there is no threat of a tsunami in the wake of the quake.
