D.C. – North Dakota’s congressional delegation announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded more than million in grants to construct temporary classroom space in Minot and offset the costs of flood protection in Valley City.
The delegation said more than $2.9 million in federal funding has been awarded to help construct temporary replacements for Ramstad Middle School and the Head Start building in Minot devastated by flooding this spring.
Additionally, a federal grant in the amount of $1.4 million was awarded to Valley City to help remove temporary levees that protected the city this spring. This grant will help defray the cost to remove all temporary levees and store or dispose of excess materials.
In total, more than $490 million in federal support has been delivered to North Dakota communities affected by record flooding this year. These grants were made available by the Department of Homeland Security through funds appropriated by Congress.
