(AP) – Democrat Heidi Heitkamp’s campaign says she
raised just under $500,000 for her U.S. Senate bid in the final
quarter of 2011. The former North Dakota attorney general and
one-time candidate for governor is running to replace Senator Kent
Conrad, who is retiring. Heitkamp is running against Republican
Congressman Rick Berg, who hasn’t released his fundraising totals
for the quarter.
     
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A federal jury has convicted a Fort Totten
man of embezzling from the Spirit Lake tribe. And the mother of his
children has pleaded guilty to the crime. A prosecutor says Brooke
Black left Justin Yankton’s name and income off applications for
home heating assistance and they got assistance for more than two
years. Yankton was tribal secretary-treasurer.
     
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The Pentagon’s plan for slowing the growth
of military spending is drawing the attention of officials in the
Dakotas. North Dakota officials are worried about the proposed
elimination of the C-27J Spartan cargo aircraft. The state National
Guard is to get some of the planes next year.
     
   
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Legendary North Dakota entrepreneur Harold
Schafer is being remembered a few days before what would have been
his 100th birthday. Entertainers are holding performances tonight
at the Belle Mehus  Auditorium in Bismarck in his honor.
