(NewsDakota.com) Two outstanding basketball games were seen on Saturday night at Jerry Meyer Arena, as the Jamestown High School basketball teams played host to Bismarck High. In the end, each school went home with a victory in their pocket, the girls of Jamestown winning in a nail biter, and the boys of Bismarck sliding past for a win.
Girls: Jamestown 59 Bismarck 57
In the girls game, Bismarck had a 33-24 lead at the end of the first half, but Jamestown became hot in the second 18 minutes, due to a 13-0 run out of the gate and shooting 52 percent from the floor, as opposed to just under 40 percent for the Demons in the second half.
“We made shots (in the second half).” said Jamestown head coach Andy Skunberg. “In the first half, we had a lot of great looks inside, and we just didn’t finish. It’s a metaphor for our season, if we make shots, we’re in a lot of these games, and if we shoot around 20-30 percent, it’s tough to win against the upper echelon teams in the WDA like Bismarck. It was the key for us to win this game tonight.”
Jamestown was lead by senior Kayla Thoele, who dropped in a team high 17 points. Kyra Dewald had 14 points.
Boys: Bismarck 80 Jamestown 70
North Dakota State will be getting one great ballplayer next season in Dexter Werner.
The 6’6 Bismarck senior put down 27 points, and just dominated from the midway point of the second half to the end of regulation, and was the main reason to why the Demons got out of Jerry Meyer Arena with a win Saturday night.
“We just couldn’t contain Werner tonight, pure and simple.” said Jamestown head coach Kelly Kessler. “We didn’t have an answer for him, and allowed him to control the game. The first half, we played well, but went cold in the second half, and Werner woke up and answered.”
Jamestown was lead by Danny Fisher who had 18 points, Dyllan Anderson had 15 points.
Next up for the girls (5-6 6-8 WDA) and boys (6-4 8-5 WDA) is a doubleheader against Belcourt Saturday February 4.
