(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School boys basketball saw their regular season finale go into the loss column, as they fell to Enderlin 78-57 on Monday night.
Oakes was not able to contain Enderlin junior Coltin Huus, as he dropped down 36 points, with 23 of those coming in the first half en route to the victory. The Tornadoes were down early; 20-7 at the end of the first quarter, but rallied to only trail by ten at the intermission.
The second half was full of whistles; Oakes was over 10 fouls in the first six minutes of the third quarter, and Enderlin soon followed. Each team had more than 20 team fouls for the game. Due to the lack of a solid run for either team in the final two periods, the Eagles held on to their lead for the rest of the contest.
“We played a much better second quarter tonight.” said Oakes head coach Brandon Bata. “The third quarter though, we just couldn’t find a matchup offensively or defensively. We didn’t execute well enough, and we didn’t defend them well enough to win tonight.”
Oakes (2-17 0-7 District 1) was lead by Simon Maddock’s 17 points, Tanner Zetocha had 16.
The District 1 Boys Basketball Tournament starts Thursday night, and the Tornadoes as the #8 seed will head to Wyndmere to battle the #1 seed Warbirds of Wyndmere/Lidgerwood. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220 and NewsDakota.com starts at 6:45, with tip set for 7 p.m.
