(NewsDakota.com) – Jury selection will continue Tuesday morning for the trial of a Jamestown woman accused of murder.
22-year-old Janelle Alexandra Cave goes on trial this week in Jamestown, charged with murder and criminal conspiracy in the death of 18-year-old Abdi Ali Ahmed, whose body was discovered in a ditch near Spiritwood on April 30, 2011. Authorities say he was stabbed and suffered blunt force trauma.
Cave and 34-year-old Leron Lee Howard are both facing Class AA felony charges of murder and criminal conspiracy, punishable by life in prison without parole.
Court Recorder Jackie Simmers says they interviewed three-fourths of the 80 potential jurors on Monday. The interviews will continue Tuesday morning, with the selection of the 12-member jury expected to be done Tuesday as well. Simmers says opening statements in the trial will likely happen Tuesday afternoon, and the first witnesses in Cave’s case will be called Wednesday.
Howard is scheduled to go on trial Aug. 7-17. Judge Thomas E. Merrick will preside over both trials.
