N.D. (AP) – A trial is set to begin today for a man who’s
accused of pulling a gun in a southwestern North Dakota courtroom.
Vicente Chacano  is accused of pulling a gun in the Adams County Courthouse in Hettinger and unsuccessfully trying to fire it after he was convicted of child molestation. He’s
charged with 14 counts of attempted murder.
     
WALHALLA, N.D. (AP) – Archer Daniels Midland is closing its
ethanol plant in the northeastern North Dakota city of Walhalla
later this spring. The Illinois agribusiness conglomerate says it’s
laying off 61 workers at the facility because the plant wasn’t
profitable enough.
     
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) – A suspect in a negligent homicide case in
Montana waived his right to challenge extradition from North
Dakota. Forty-six-year-old Charles Bowen is being held in
Williston. He was arrested last month in the killing of a man who
had been working in the region’s booming oil patch.     
    
WASHBURN, N.D. (AP) – Some Washburn residents are hoping to work
together to try to save the McLean County Courthouse from being
demolished. The members of the McLean County Heritage Preservation
Foundation hope to buy the old courthouse buildings, property and
building contents for $1, so they can be preserved.
