(NewsDakota.com)- The girls hit the road to Mandan and the boys welcomed the Braves to Wilson Arena. Both Blue Jay teams left with victories.
The girls got a 5-2 win spearheaded by two goals from Amber Schaack. The win moves them up to No. 7 in the current state standings.
The Jays have three games remaining in the regular season before the state tournament starts February 23rd. They will play Dickinson at home on Friday night. Tuesday they will host Devils Lake, a game that will be carried on 103.1 The Raven, drop of the puck 7:00 pm.
The win improves their record to 9-10 on the season.
The boys took on the Braves at home and the home crowd was in for a great game.
Jamestown jumped up 2-0 right away in the opening period, but the Braves responded in the second period taking a 3-2 lead. Jake Stillwell had the first two goals of the game for the Jays.
In the third period, Brady Anderson’s shot on a power play was redirected into the net by Riley Schafer to tie the game.
Senior forward Tanner Werkhoven poked in a rebound goal with 3:06 remaining to give the Jays a 4-3 victory.
Stilwell’s two goals were his 21st and 22nd of the season. Brady Anderson had three assists in the win.
“We gutted this one out,” head coach Matt Stockert said. “We found a level in the third period to pull this off.”
The Jays improve to 7-12-1 and 7-8-1 in the WDA. Mandan slides to 7-13 and 5-10 in the west.
The Blue Jays will finish off the season tomorrow night at Bismarck High. Mark McKenzie will have the call on 103.1 The Raven with the pregame show beginning around 7pm.
