FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The Republican majority leader in the
North Dakota House says the Legislature will be involved in
choosing an attorney to defend the state’s Fighting Sioux nickname
law. The Board of Higher Education is going to court to try to have
the law thrown out.
     
TIOGA, N.D. (AP) – Republican presidential candidate Rick
Santorum will be in North Dakota today for a series of campaign
events. He’ll kick off his day in Tioga in the heart North Dakota’s
oil patch before he holds a round table discussion and a town hall
meeting. He’ll be in Fargo tonight for a rally.
     
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – A spokeswoman for Dickinson State
University says a dean who committed suicide didn’t know about an
audit that was critical of the college. Douglas LaPlante shot
himself near campus on Friday. That’s the day an audit showed
Dickinson State had awarded hundreds of degrees and certificates to
foreign students who didn’t earn them.
     
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The Pembina County Commission accepted the
resignation of the county prosecutor yesterday during a special
session. The meeting had originally been scheduled to look at
allegations that Stuart Askew neglected his job, overlooked
prosecutions and ignored some requests for legal help. Askew says
the claims are false, but says they made it impossible for him to
do his job.
